Algarve named world’s best golfing spot

The Algarve - the southernmost region of Portugal - has been named the world’s best golf destination.

At the annual Rheingolf Show in Cologne - organized by Germany’s eponymous leading golf magazine - the Portuguese region was identified as the finest place on the planet to hit the links.

Representatives of the Associacao de Tourismo do Algarve were on hand to collect the award.

The Algarve also won plaudits for its golfing facilities last year, when the International Association of Golf Tour Operators named the area the world’s top location for a golfing holiday.

The Atlantic vacation spot - which is as famous for its outstanding natural beauty, Mediterranean climate, nightlife and beaches as its golf courses - also won the prestigious gong seven years ago.

When planning a golfing vacation, remember to invest in suitable travel insurance cover to legislate for the unexpected.

Green fees in the region start at around Ä36 ($49) for 18 holes.
