A caravanning renaissance spearheaded by celebrities such as Kate Moss, Robbie Williams and Jamie Oliver is purportedly sweeping the nation.
Brits planning to follow in the tyre tracks of the stars, however, have been warned that a suitable travel insurance policy is vital before hitching up a caravan to the family car, since accidents or acts of vandalism can prove very expensive.
According to Co-operative Insurance (CIS), the average caravanning travel insurance claim is £1,826, with theft the most common complaint.
Damage from storms or road accidents, vandalism and accidental breakages are also reported to be widespread.
“Many people take caravan breaks to escape the pressures of everyday life, but it is important that holidaymakers are aware of the potential dangers and keep a watchful eye on their caravan and belongings to ensure that their trip remains stress-free,” advises CIS director of insurance David Neave.
The caravanning industry is currently worth in the region of £16 billion, according to the Caravan Club.
