What is the “pre-existing condition look-back period”?

The pre-existing look back period for a travel insurance policy is the number of days that the insurance company will “look back” to determine if a claim is related to a pre-existing condition. The look back period is generally between 60 and 180 days depending on the policy selected. Pre-existing conditions are generally excluded; however meeting certain conditions of the plan (i.e. purchase within 14 - 21 days of first payment) may allow you to have this exclusion waived. Refer to the policy certificate for full details of coverage. Look back periods for International Medical plans can be 6 months to 3 years depending on the policy selected.
