What are the "non-insurance" services?
Answer:
Travel insurance and assistance services were initially developed in Europe a half-century ago. These products are well known and popular among Western European travelers, where as many as 90% of those on holiday purchase some form of travel protection. But even outside of Europe, in countries such as Canada, Australia, and Japan, travelers regularly purchase travel protection.
The travel protection market is less mature in the United States, where it is estimated that no more than 25% of international travelers purchase protection. Prior to Septemeber 11, 2001, the major problem was one of consumer awareness, but through consistent marketing efforts, CSA is educating travel agents and the public about the benefits of travel protection. CSA's research, enhanced by experience with highly motivated travel agents, demonstrates that when consumers are made aware of the risks involved with travel and are informed about the protection CSA offers, they are eager to purchase coverage.
It is estimated that the travel insurance market in the U.S. has been growing an estimated 20 to 25 percent per year, a rate that outpaces the growth of leisure travel spending by two or three times.
