Coverage Description
Provides reimbursement for lost, stolen or damaged baggage or personal items. This coverage is usually for your entire trip, not just your flight. If you have items valued over $1000 it is best to have these items "scheduled" on your home-owners policy.

We will pay this benefit if your baggage or other personal effects are lost, damaged or stolen while on your “trip”, provided you have taken all reasonable measures to preserve and protect, or recover the property.

Property Not Covered:

  1. Animals;
  2. Automobiles and equipment, motorcycles and motors;
  3. Bicycles (except when checked with a “common carrier”);
  4. Aircraft, boats or any other vehicles or conveyances;
  5. Eyeglasses, sunglasses, contact lenses, hearing aids, artificial teeth and limbs;
  6. Tickets, keys, money, notes, securities, accounts, bills, currency, deeds, food stamps or other evidences of debt, credit cards and other travel documents (except passports and visas);
  7. Contraband, or property in the course of illegal transportation or trade;
  8. Property shipped as freight or shipped prior to your “trip departure date.”

In the event of a covered claim, we will pay the lesser of:

  1. The actual purchase price of the item;
  2. The “actual cash value” of the item at the time of loss;
  3. For non-receipted items we will pay 75% of the “actual cash value” of the item at the time of loss; or
  4. The cost to repair or replace the item, or an item of like kind and quality. This coverage is excess over any other coverage or indemnity provided by a “common carrier”.

In addition to the General Exclusions, coverage is not provided for defective materials or workmanship, ordinary wear and tear and normal deterioration.

Your Duties In The Event Of Loss:
You must notify the police, appropriate local authorities, or “common carrier” at the place the loss occurred. They must be informed of the value of the property within 24 hours after the loss. You must provide documentation to support your loss, such as copies of “common carrier” claims, police reports, an itemization and description of lost items, all receipts, credit card statements, cancelled checks,

We will reimburse you, less any amount paid or payable from any Other Valid and Collectible Insurance or indemnity, up to the amount shown in the Schedule, for direct loss, theft, damage or destruction of your Baggage, passports or visas during your Covered Trip. We will also pay for loss due to unauthorized use of your credit cards, if you have complied with all of the credit card conditions imposed by the credit card companies.

Valuation and Payment of Loss
Payment of loss under the Baggage and Personal Effects Benefit will be calculated based upon an Actual Cash Value basis. For items without receipts, payment of loss will be calculated based upon 75% of the Actual Cash Value at the time of loss. At our option, we may elect to repair or replace your Baggage. We will notify you within 30 days after we receive your proof of loss.

We may take all or part of damaged Baggage as a condition for payment of loss. In the event of a loss to a pair or set of items, we will: 1) Repair or replace any part to restore the pair or set to its value before the loss; or 2) Pay the difference between the value of the property before and after the loss.

Continuation of Coverage
If the covered Baggage, passports or visas are in the custody of a Common Carrier, and delivery is delayed, this coverage will continue until the property is delivered to you. This continuation of coverage does not include loss caused by or resulting from the delay.

Items Not Covered
We will not pay for damage to or loss of: animals; property used in trade, business or for the production of income; household furniture; musical instruments; brittle or fragile articles; sporting equipment if the loss results from the use thereof; boats; motors; motorcycles; motor vehicles; aircraft; other conveyances or equipment, or parts for such conveyances; artificial limbs or other prosthetic devices; artificial teeth; dental bridges; dentures; dental braces; retainers or other orthodontic devices; hearing aids; any type of eyeglasses, sunglasses or contact lenses; documents or tickets, except for administrative fees required to reissue tickets; money; stamps; stocks and bonds; postal or money orders; securities; accounts; bills; deeds; food stamps; credit cards, except as noted above; property shipped as freight or shipped prior to the Scheduled Departure Date; or contraband.

Losses Not Covered
We will not pay for loss arising from: defective materials or craftsmanship; or normal wear and tear, gradual deterioration, inherent vice; or rodents, animals, insects or vermin; or mysterious disappearance; or electrical current, including electric arcing that damages or destroys electrical devices or appliances.

Your Duties in the Event of a Loss
In case of loss, theft or damage to Baggage and personal effects, you should: 1) Immediately report the situation incident to the hotel manager, tour guide or representative, transportation official, local police or other local authorities and obtain their written report of your loss; and 2) Take reasonable steps to protect your Baggage from further damage, and make necessary, reasonable and temporary repairs. We will reimburse you for these expenses. We will not pay for further damage if you fail to protect your Baggage.

The Insurer will reimburse the Insured, up to the Maximum Limit shown on the Schedule of Benefits minus a $50 Deductible (Deductible does not apply if Umbrella Package is purchased) for loss, theft, or damage to the Insured’s Baggage and travel documents during the Insured’s Trip.

Continuation of Coverage: If the Insured has checked his or her property with a Common Carrier, and delivery is delayed, coverage for Baggage and travel documents will continue until such property is delivered to the Insured. This coverage does not include loss caused by the delay.
Property Not Covered: The Insurer will not pay for damage or loss of:
(a) animals;
(b) bicycles (except when checked with a Common Carrier);
(c) motor vehicles and other conveyances;
(d) prosthetic limbs; false teeth; any type of eyeglasses, sunglasses or contact lenses; hearing aids;

Special Limitations: The Insurer will not pay more than $500 for the first item and thereafter, no more than $250 per item up to the Baggage and Personal Effects Loss Maximum Limit shown on the Schedule of Benefits. The Insurer also will not pay more than $500 aggregate on all losses of the following: jewelry, watches, furs, cameras and camera equipment, camcorders, sporting equipment, computers, and other electronic devices. Additional Exclusions: In addition to the General Exclusions, the Insurer will not pay for any loss due to: (a) defective materials or craftsmanship; (b) normal wear and tear; (c) gradual deterioration; or (d) rodents, animals, vermin, or insects.

Payment of Loss: The Insured must: (a) report theft losses to police or other local authorities as soon as possible; (b) take reasonable steps to protect his/her Baggage from further damage and make necessary and reasonable temporary repairs. The Insurer will reimburse the Insured for those expenses. The Insurer will not pay for further damage if the Insured fails to protect his/her Baggage; (c) allow the Insurer to examine the damaged Baggage and/or the Insurer may require the damaged item to be sent in the event of payment; (d) send sworn proof of loss as soon as possible from date of loss, providing amount of loss, date, time, and cause of loss, and a complete list of damaged/lost items; or (e) in the event of theft or unauthorized use of the Insured’s credit cards, the Insured must notify the credit card company immediately to reduce his/her loss. Any items $150 or more must be accompanied by the original receipt. Excess Insurance Limitation applies.

BAGGAGE COVERAGE
Coverage is secondary to any coverage provided by a Common Carrier.
If Baggage is lost, damaged or stolen, the Company will pay the loss, up to the maximum amount indicated in Your Letter of Confirmation, provided You have taken all reasonable measures to protect, save and/or recover Your property at all times. Not withstanding the foregoing, We will cover up to a maximum amount of $500 for any and all jewelry, watches, gems, furs, cameras, and camera equipment, camcorders, sporting equipment, computers, radios and other electronic items and only when original receipts are provided.
You must notify the appropriate local authorities at the place the loss occurred and inform them of the value and description of Your property within 24 hours after the loss. Additional Exclusions: In addition to the General Exclusions, the Insurer will not pay this loss caused by or as a result of : (a) defective materials or craftsmanship; (b) normal wear and tear; (c) deterioration; or (d) rodents, animals, or insects.

Requirements in the Event of a Loss: The Insured must: (a) report theft losses to police or other local authorities as soon as possible; (b) take reasonable steps to protect his/her Baggage from further damage and make necessary and reasonable temporary repairs.
