Can I cancel my cruise because of the Zika virus?

Last Updated:

Concern over the Zika virus is not a covered reason to cancel your cruise on standard Trip Cancellation policies.

More Detail

Travelers who are concerned about the Zika virus can be covered to cancel their cruise if they purchase the Cancel For Any Reason upgrade. This benefit allows you to cancel for any reason at all, including fear of the Zika virus.

Cancel For Any Reason is a time-sensitive benefit that must be purchased within 14-30 of your initial trip deposit date. This benefit can significantly increase a policy’s premium and requires you to insure 100% of your trip cost, but it will only reimburse 50-75%. To cancel your trip with Cancel For Any Reason, you must cancel at least 2-3 days before your departure.

In addition to Cancel For Any Reason, there are a couple other scenarios in which cancellation coverage is available. Some policies cover travelers to cancel who become pregnant after purchasing the policy. Additionally, travelers who contract Zika and who have a doctor’s recommendation not to travel can also be covered to cancel.
