The National Hurricane Center said at 5 a.m. Monday August 31, 2015, Jimena was located about 1,330 miles east of Hilo and was moving to the west at 16 miles per hour. A turn to the west-northwest with a decrease in forward speed is expected during the next couple days.  Jimena had maximum sustained winds of 150 miles per hour with higher gusts. It will likely maintain its strength over the next day or so, but will slowly start to weaken.  Right now, hurricane force winds extend outward up to 60 mph from the center, and Tropical Storm force winds extend 175 miles.  At this point, it is no threat to land, and it is too early to tell what kind of impacts it will have on the Hawaiian islands.  Jimena is the tenth named storm of the Eastern Pacific hurricane season.
