Am I covered if my itinerary changes because of the coronavirus affecting my destination?

Last Updated:

Although your cruise may be forced to divert due to the coronavirus and your itinerary is not what you initially expected, travel insurance policies typically do not cover this situation.

As long as your cruise still disembarks, even if the route changes, travel insurance likely will not cover you for an itinerary change. Only one travel insurance policy on – Arch RoamRight Elite – includes coverage for an itinerary change within Trip Interruption.

With this policy, if the itinerary change happened prior to your departure, or if you’re already traveling but the itinerary change occurs as a precaution, there is likely no coverage. If you’re already traveling and the change occurs because the city is quarantined, there may be coverage.
