Am I covered to cancel my trip if I get sick before my trip?

Last Updated:

Travel insurance policies with Trip Cancellation coverage may cover you to cancel your trip if you, a family member, or a traveling companion become sick before your departure date.

The most common covered reason for Trip Cancellation is an unforeseen illness or injury of a traveler, their family member, or a traveling companion. In this case, Trip Cancellation can reimburse 100% of your prepaid and nonrefundable trip expenses, including your airfare, hotel accommodations, tours, and excursions.

In order for coverage to be available, you must provide medical records from a legally licensed physician advising against travel. To be covered, you must also provide receipts to prove your losses.

This information may vary based on the travel insurance policy. If you have questions about a specific policy, please contact us directly at 800-240-0369. Our customer service representatives are available from 8am to 10pm ET, seven days a week, and are delighted to help!
