Can I go to the doctor if I think I have contracted an illness on my trip?

Last Updated:

Short Answer
Yes, if a traveler contracts an illness, including measles, while on their covered trip they may go to any licensed medical physician who is not their traveling companion or family member.

More Detail
The Emergency Medical and Medical Evacuation benefits within a travel insurance policy cover the costs for medical treatment, hospitalization and transportation to the nearest adequate medical facility.

In most cases, the travelers will pay any medical expenses out-of-pocket, and then file a claim to be reimbursed up to the amount listed in the policy. On a case-by-case basis, pre-certification of payment for a traveler’s hospital fees may be available, however, it is not guaranteed.

This coverage is subject to change at any time as conditions related to the measles change.
