Can I purchase a travel insurance policy after the Icelandic volcano has erupted?

Last Updated:

Iceland’s Bardarbunga volcano erupted on Saturday, August 30, 2014. Any travel insurance policies purchased on or after that date, will not cover any losses related to the volcano, including cancelled or delayed flights.

Travelers may buy travel insurance after the Icelandic volcano has erupted, however, they may only have coverage for claims that are unrelated to the Icelandic volcano.

Travelers who have bought a travel insurance policy prior to the volcano’s eruption are eligible for full coverage benefits. Policies purchased after the volcano has erupted are not covered for claims related to the Icelandic volcano.
