If your flight was delayed because of the terrorist attack at Ataturk airport, you may be covered under your policy’s Travel Delay or Missed Connection benefit, as long as you had a policy in place before the attack occurred.
On most policies, Travel Delay and Missed Connection can be triggered if your airline is delayed for more than 3-12 hours for any reason, including an airport closure. These benefits can cover additional expenses such as meals and accommodations during your delay, as well as transportation to continue on to your originally scheduled destination. Travel Delay and Missed Connection typically have a daily expense limit, which can vary by policy.
Some travel insurance policies provide Trip Cancellation and Interruption coverage if a terrorist attack causes your departure or destination airport to stop all flights for at least 12-48 hours. These benefits can provide coverage for you to cancel or return home early from your trip. The Trip Interruption benefit can also reimburse unused prepaid expenses for the missed portion of your trip.
If you need assistance during your delay, contact your travel insurance provider’s emergency assistance department. When you file your claim, you will need receipts for any additional expenses incurred during your delay.
Please refer to your policy certificate or contact your provider directly to confirm your coverage. Contact information for your provider can be found in your policy certificate or in our Claims information center.
