Travelers who purchased a travel insurance policy with the Cancel For Any Reason upgrade prior to September 23, 2019 can be covered to cancel their trip due to the Thomas Cook collapse.
Cancel For Any Reason is an optional upgrade that partially reimburses travelers to cancel their trip for a reason that may not otherwise be covered by their policy. Travelers often don’t need to provide a reason for their cancellation, and will be reimbursed based on their prepaid and non-refundable trip costs.
Most policies with Cancel For Any Reason refund 75% of a traveler’s prepaid and non-refundable trip cost if they cancel for a reason not covered by their policy. In order to be eligible for this coverage, travelers must purchase their policy within 14-21 days of making their initial trip payment and insure 100% of their prepaid and non-refundable trip costs.
This benefit typically increases a policy’s premium by about 40%. In order to cancel a trip using this benefit, the traveler must cancel their trip in its entirety at least 2-3 days before their scheduled departure date.
