Will travel insurance allow me to cancel my trip if the Ebola outbreak worsens?

Last Updated:

Short Answer
If a traveler wants the option to cancel a trip if the outbreak worsens, or if a traveler is scared to travel due to Ebola, we recommend purchasing a policy with the Cancel For Any Reason benefit.

More Detail
Concern over the Ebola outbreak is not a covered reason to cancel a trip. However, policies with the Cancel For Any Reason benefit literally allow a traveler to cancel their trip for any reason, and be reimbursed up to 75% of their trip cost.

In order to be eligible for this benefit, a policy must be purchased within 21 days of the first trip deposit. Additionally, the entire trip cost must be insured. This benefit typically increases the price of the insurance policy by 40%.

Some policies include specific limitations or exclusions related to Ebola. To read each provider’s current position on their coverage of the Ebola outbreak, please read their official position statements here: https://www.squaremouth.com/current-event-information-centers/ebola/position-statements
