Glacial ‘Cauldrons’ Suggest Nearing Bardarbunga Eruption

As the magma moving from Bardarbunga heads northeast, the possibility of volcanic eruption threatens Iceland.

According to Volcanologist, Haraldur Sigurosson, there is a possibility that the flowing magma could stretch beyond the edge of the glacier, reaching the Askja volcano system, and ignite an eruption.

Sigurosson also states that the magma would still have 10 to 15 miles to travel before this occurs, thus the chances of the volcanic activity subsiding is much more likely.
