The event is covered under policies purchased before Monday, 5/22/17. As of then, the event is no longer considered unforeseen, so it will not be covered. This guideline applies only to new policies that are effective on or after the event, and covering travel during such time.

A terrorist incident is a named peril under Trip Cancellation/Interruption coverage.

On Monday, May 22nd, at least twenty two people were killed and another 59 people were wounded in a suicide attack after an Ariana Grande concert at England’s Manchester Arena. The Islamic State terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the attack. Customers are strongly encouraged to read their Description of Coverage or Insurance Policy for details regarding their available coverage. For plans that do offer coverage for a terrorist act, please note that there is no coverage for this specific event under any plans purchased on or after May 22nd , 2017. Twenty-two people were killed and fifty-nine others injured as the result of a suicide bombing at the Manchester Arena on Monday, May 22nd. Responsibility for the attack has been claimed by ISIS and at least one person is believed to have been arrested at this time. Those in Manchester, London and other major cities in the UK should anticipate an increased police presence at transportation hubs, including train stations and airports, and other high-profile locations. The UK’s terrorism threat level is currently severe. Due to the elevated threat from terrorism in the country, travellers are advised to exercise a heightened level of vigilance and immediately report any suspicious items or activity to security forces.

On May 22, 2017, a suicide bomber targeted an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, killing more than 20 people and injuring more than 50 others.

What you need to know about your policy:
As of May 24, 2017, the U.S. Department of State has officially deemed the incident an act of terrorism, meaning
there may be coverage for current Tin Leg policyholders to cancel or interrupt their trip. In order to be eligible for these benefits, a Tin Leg policy must have been purchased prior to May 22.

Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption coverage for Terrorism:
In order for an event to be covered under Tin Leg policies, the event must occur on or after the policy’s effective date and must be deemed an act of terrorism by the U.S. Department of State. It also must meet at least one of the following requirements:

  • The terrorist incident must occur within 7 days of your departure and within 50 miles of a city listed on your itinerary.
  • The terrorist attacks result in the complete cessation of travel services at the point of departure or destination for the following specified amounts of time:
    • Tin Leg Economy policy: 48 consecutive hours
    • Tin Leg Standard policy: 24 consecutive hours
    • Tin Leg Luxury policy: 12 consecutive hours

In addition to Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption coverage, other benefits, including Trip Delay, Emergency Medical, and Medical Evacuation, may also be available for coverage related to this event.
