Saudi Response to MERS Cited for Mass Outbreak

The Saudi response to MERS is under fire again for the mass outbreak that spurred 700 cases in 20 counties, and caused the death of more than 250 people.

The suspected cases of MERS were not always identified or treated correctly. It is suggested that the lapse in the Saudi healthcare system weighed heavier on the spread of the virus than even the camels who originated the virus.

While control of the virus remains to be seen, the number of newly reported cases has decreased from a couple hundred a month to only 27 reported since May.
