HTH Worldwide – New York City Bombing Travel Insurance Coverage Position Statement
On Saturday September 17, 2016 an improvised explosive device (IED) was detonated outside 131 West 23rd Street in New York City’s Chelsea neighborhood. Twenty-nine people were injured. Security across New York City has been heightened in light of Saturday’s incidents and the ongoing UN General Assembly meeting. At this point, the U.S. Government has not identified this event as a terrorist attack. If they do, these events will meet the definition of a Terrorist Incident and there may be coverage for Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption. The policy wording for eligible TripProtector plan members for Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption benefits reads as follows:
“A Terrorist Incident that occurs in a city listed on Your Trip itinerary during YourTrip or within thirty (30) days prior to Your Scheduled Departure Date. This same city must not have experienced a Terrorist Incident within the ninety (90) days prior to the Terrorist Incident that is causing the cancellation or interruption of Your Trip. Benefits are not provided if the Travel Supplier offers a substitute itinerary.
