Cancellation

Can I cancel if I am starting a new job and don’t have approved time off yet?

Last Updated:

Short Answer

No, cancelling a trip for work reasons, whether to start a new job or because you did not have pre-approved vacation time, is not a covered reason to cancel a trip.

More Detail

Cancelling a trip due to work reasons without having pre-approved vacation time revoked is not a covered reason to cancel your trip.

If you are concerned about a new job impacting your planned trip, you should consider purchasing a policy with the optional Cancel for Any Reason upgrade. This benefit allows travelers to cancel a trip for any reason not otherwise covered under standard Trip Cancellation benefits. Cancel for Any Reason provides up to 75% reimbursement of the insured trip cost, and requires you insure 100% of your prepaid and non-refundable trip costs. This upgrade typically must be purchased within 14-21 days of your initial booking date, and allows you to cancel 2-3 days before your departure date.

The Cancel for Work Reasons benefit only provides coverage if your previously approved time off has been revoked because you are required to work.
