Cancellation

Can I cancel my trip due to pregnancy?

Last Updated:

Short Answer

Cancelling a trip due to pregnancy or childbirth is generally excluded within travel insurance policies. However, some policies offer Trip Cancellation coverage if the traveler becomes pregnant after the effective date of the policy or to attend a family member’s childbirth, and some policies offer coverage in the event of complications of pregnancy.

More Detail

Most travel insurance policies exclude pregnancy as a covered reason to cancel a trip. This also includes childbirth if you were pregnant at the time the policy was purchased.

There are some policies that provide coverage for complications of pregnancy, however, complications are typically not defined and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Some policies cover cancellation due to normal pregnancy, as long as the pregnancy began after the policy is purchased. Policies with this coverage may cover cancellation if you become pregnant, or if you must attend a family member’s childbirth.
