Short Answer

Yes, some policies can cover a one way trip.

More Detail

Some providers will allow you to insure a one way trip for Medical and Trip Cancellation coverage. When quoting for a Trip Cancellation policy, you will want to insure only the time it takes you to arrive at your destination, from the date you leave home until the date you arrive at your destination.

In order to determine if a policy will provide coverage for a one-way trip, please check the definitions section of the policy detail. This can also be found in the policy’s certificate under the terms “Covered Trip”, “Trip”, or “Scheduled Return Date.” Look for policies that specifically mention one way travel, or return to a different final location within their definitions.

The definition of a covered trip will vary between policies, and if the definition is period of round-trip travel, the policy does not cover one way travel. If the definition is period away from home, or explicitly states one-way trip, the policy can provide this coverage. Additionally, the definition of “Scheduled Return Date” will state where the traveler can return or end their trip.

This information can vary based on the travel insurance policy. Please review the policy certificate to verify coverage.
