Covid-19

Can I be covered to cancel my trip if I contract coronavirus?

Last Updated:

Short Answer

You may be covered to cancel your trip if you contract COVID-19 before departure if your policy includes Coronavirus Cancellation within the Trip Cancellation benefit.

More Detail

The Coronavirus Cancellation benefit can provide reimbursement for prepaid, non-refundable trip costs if you contract coronavirus and a licensed physician advises you not to travel. Coronavirus Cancellation is included within some policies under the Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption benefits. In order for coverage to apply, you must be medically fit to travel when you purchase the policy.

If you contract the virus before your scheduled departure date, Coronavirus Cancellation can reimburse 100% of your prepaid and non-refundable trip costs. If you contract coronavirus during your trip, this benefit can reimburse your unused trip expenses, as well as additional transportation expenses you incur to return home.

As some providers consider the coronavirus pandemic to be a foreseen event, Coronavirus Cancellation is only available within a few Trip Cancellation policies. Click here to start a search for policies that may cover contracting coronavirus.
