Cancellation

If there is a hurricane warning before my trip, can I cancel my trip?

Last Updated:

Short Answer   Most Trip Cancellation policies include coverage to cancel or interrupt your trip for Hurricane and Weather reasons, and some policies will specifically provide coverage in the event of a hurricane warning.

More Detail Cancellation due to a hurricane warning is included in some Trip Cancellation policies.

Some policies include coverage for a hurricane warning if it is issued by NOAA within a certain number of hours of the departure date, and require your policy is effective for a certain number of days before this benefit is in effect. Additionally, some policies will only provide coverage if you have 50% or less of your trip remaining in order to be covered for Trip Interruption. The policies require the policy is purchased before the storm is named. Each policy has specific requirements regarding this coverage that can be found in the Policy Detail and certificate.

Canceling a trip due to fear of a hurricane is never covered under standard Trip Cancellation policies. Travelers who want the option to cancel for this reason, or any reason not covered under their policy, should consider purchasing a policy with the Cancel for Any Reason upgrade.
