How to Get a Quote

Who can be on the same policy?

Last Updated:

Short Answer

Typically, if you share the same departure and return dates and reside in the same country you can be on the same policy.

More Detail

The residency and citizenship of the travelers may affect eligibility for certain policies and benefits.

Typically, in order to be on the same policy, travelers must reside in the same country and leave and return on the same dates. Travelers who are residents of the same country but live in different states should purchase separate policies. Some coverage is determined by resident state.

To ensure all travelers are eligible for the same policy, please verify this within the policy certificate, and re-quote with each residency or citizenship prior to purchasing your policy. If the policy and benefits are available to all travelers, all travelers are eligible for coverage.

Please use the primary contact’s residency and citizenship when purchasing your policy. The primary contact for your policy can be selected on the purchase page and is simply used to indicate the main traveler. In the event of a loss, each traveler’s claim will be paid based on the coverage available for their individual residency or citizenship. This is why it is important to verify all travelers are eligible for coverage prior to purchasing your policy.

Additionally, some travel insurance policies have specific requirements regarding who can be on the same policy. These can include:

– The travelers must be related
– The travelers must reside at the same address
– The travelers must be a spouse or direct dependent under the age of 19

If a policy you are comparing has any eligibility requirements, a pop-up notification will be displayed when you click ‘Buy now’. You can then choose to continue if the travelers meet the requirements, or go back and choose another policy.

If the policy you are comparing has an eligibility requirement the travelers do not meet, you can still purchase this policy individually for each traveler. In this case, the travelers can be covered together providing they are considered traveling companions per the policy certificate. This is usually defined as travelers who share a trip itinerary or are staying in the same accommodation.

This information can vary based on the travel insurance policy. Please review the policy certificate to verify coverage.
