Will the insurance company pay the hospital directly?

Last Updated:

Short Answer

Travel insurance policies are designed to be reimbursement policies, and require you pay for treatment out of pocket first, and then file a claim for reimbursement.

More Detail

Typically, you are expected to pay for medical expenses out of pocket, and then file a claim for reimbursement when you return home.

On a case-by-case basis, pre-certification of payment for your hospital fees may be available, however, it is not guaranteed. Many providers will provide Advance Payment to secure your admission to a hospital if necessary.

To date, we have not received a complaint regarding a lack of treatment due to the inability to cover upfront costs.
