Two American senators have published a list of the top 20 firms to make use of L1 visas in the fiscal year just passed.
Several of the leading employers of L1 applicants also boast the highest uptakes of H1B visa holders.
Multinational companies use L1 visas to bring their finest overseas talent to work in the USA on a temporary basis. H1B visas are primarily used by information technology firms to hire the top foreigners, though applicants must have earned their degree in the States to qualify.
Democratic Illinois senator Richard Durbin and Republican Chuck Grassley from Iowa produced the list as part of the ongoing debate in Congress over immigration reforms.
The chart reveals that Tata Consultancy Services brought 4,887 people to work in the USA last year via the L1 visa programme, considerably more than any other employer. Second-placed Cognizant Tech Solutions brought 3,520 workers and IBM, in third place, used 1,237.
Other names on the list include Satyam, Wipro, Deloitte, Intel, Hewlett-Packard, Infosys, Accenture, Oracle, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Microsoft.
