Skip “Cancel for Any Reason” Coverage
You don’t have to spend 10% of your trip’s cost on travel insurance. For example, if you skip the cancel for any reason option, you can lower your premium to as little as 4% of the trip’s cost. And you don’t have to insure the entire trip.
“By choosing not to insure your trip cost, you can save money on comprehensive travel insurance policies that still include other important benefits—including emergency medical coverage, trip delay, baggage loss, and more,” says Kasara Barto, a spokesperson for travel insurance provider SquareMouth.
For a two-week trip that costs $5,000, two 50-year-olds planning can save over $100 by choosing a comprehensive policy without the cancel for any reason coverage, she says.
