Description: Trip Cancellation:
There was no travel warning in place for US citizens traveling to Mumbai. For policies with an effective date of November 26, 2008 or earlier, cancellation will be considered if their travel itinerary included the city of Mumbai and they are scheduled to travel to that city within the next 30 days (i.e. November 26, 2008 to Dec 26, 2008). Callers should be advised that cancellation claims will be considered on the penalties in place up to November 29, 2008.

Trip Interruption:
Anyone who is currently traveling in India and is either in Mumbai or scheduled to be in Mumbai between November 26, 2008 and Dec 26, 2008 may interrupt their trip and return home or continue on to the next part of their itinerary. We will consider their claim for:
Any unsued non-refundable prepaid travel arrangements
One way economy transportation to return to their original departure point or continue on their covered trip, less the value of the original unused return travel ticket.

Type of Notice: Terrorist Incident

Travel Insured
A politically-motivated act of terrorism, such as those that occurred in Mumbai, is a covered reason for Trip Cancellation / Trip Interruption protection under our Worldwide Trip Protector plans, including Worldwide Trip Protector, Trip Protector Gold, Trip Protector Lite & Lite Expanded. In this case, the insured traveler’s prepaid itinerary must include a listed visit within the city of Mumbai. A traveler with a Mumbai itinerary covered under a Worldwide Trip Protector plan, with an effective date for Trip Cancellation coverage on or before Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, can qualify for Trip Cancellation benefits on departures within 30 days of the terrorist event, in this case for departures up to Dec. 25, 2008.

Insured travelers to Mumbai with Travel Insured plan effective dates on or before Nov. 25, 2008 may also qualify for Trip Delay coverage ranging from $500 per insured to $1,500 per insured depending upon the type of Worldwide Trip Protector plan purchased.
All Travel Insured protection plans include Worldwide Emergency Travel Assistance, available 24/7 from anywhere help is needed. Included services readily available in emergency situations are: Medical Evacuation, Medically Necessary Repatriation, Repatriation of Remains, Medical or Legal Referrals, a Hospital Admission Guarantee, Translation Services and Prescription Replacements, among others. The terrorist attack that took place in Mumbai, India starting on November 26, 2008, and lasting through November 29, is a covered event under TripProtector travel protection plans. This coverage applies to customers who purchased their plan prior to the attack, whose itinerary included Mumbai, and whose trip departure date was within seven days after the incident.

Customers are encouraged to read their certificate or description of coverage carefully.

There is no coverage (related to Mumbai) for plans with an effective date after November 27, 2008.

This coverage applies to customers who purchased their plan prior to the attack, whose itinerary included Mumbai, and whose trip departure date was within seven days after the incident.

Customers are encouraged to read their certificate or description of coverage carefully to determine if their particular plan includes coverage for Terrorist Incidents.
For those plans that do offer coverage for Terrorist Incidents, there is no coverage for plans with an effective date after November 27, 2008.

TravelSafe
TravelSafe policies provide benefits in case travel is affected by a Terrorist Act. The bombings in Mumbai on 11/26/08 represent a Terrorist Act under the TravelSafe policies, so for travelers who had departed after 10/27/08 on trips which include Mumbai as a destination, trip interruption benefits are available. Trip cancellation benefits are available under policies purchased prior to 11/26/08 for trips departing by 12/26/08 with itineraries that include Mumbai. (If your policy was purchased prior to 6/1/07, additional provisions may apply for trip cancellation or trip interruption benefits.) Medical, baggage, and accidental death and dismemberment benefits are all payable according to the policy provisions, and all assistance services are available.

Travel Guard

In regards to the incident that took place in Mumbai, India on Wednesday, November 26 – insurance would have to have been purchased by 11/25/08 AND would only apply to policies that have terrorism coverage AND for travel with Mumbai, India as a destination on their itinerary.

On Wednesday, November 26th, coordinated attacks on hotels and other locations in Mumbai were identified as terrorist activity. While still under investigation, we have learned that the group responsible for the attacks is listed by the U.S. State Department as a recognized “terrorist organization”.

Access America policy holders may receive trip cancellation or interruption benefits if their travel plans have been affected by this attack. Please review your insurance certificate/policy to see your specific terms and conditions of the insuring agreement and remember to contact your travel provider prior to canceling your travel arrangements.
