It is common for travel insurance providers to share customer experiences in their agent newsletters. Learning how another traveler made use of the travel insurance coverage helps other travelers understand how a policy can protect them. The following is an excerpt from the Travelex newsletter.
I just wanted to thank Travelex for riding to the rescue for my soldier from the war zone. The Army changed his leave, forcing him to purchase a new airplane ticket. He bought a ticket that he could not change and it was completely non-refundable.
It was so wonderful that Travelex would reimburse the cost of the new ticket. He was so thrilled! It would have made it impossible for him to return home if your policy did not reimburse the cost of the new ticket.
Most travel insurance policies include coverage for trip cancellation and trip interruption. This will reimburse unused trip costs that are not refunded as well as last minute transportation expenses to return home. Benefits will only be payable if the trip is cancelled or interrupted for a covered reason in the policy. Most commonly this is a sickness, injury or death of the traveler, traveling companion or family member. For the above situation to be covered, a policy would have to include the covered reason of having military leave revoked. Always refer to the certificate of insurance for details.
