The Australian government issued a warning to its citizens regarding an upsurge of dissident republic attacks and parade related riots in Northern Ireland on August 27th. Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade warned its citizens that they could inadvertently get caught up in the violence, prompting a South Down MP to call the travel advice an “over-reaction.”
There has been a significant increase in violence in recent weeks, with more than 40 people charged with rioting in Belfast over the Twelfth of July period.
