It was reported on August 5th that twin car bombings have killed at least six people and injured about 50 others in southern Iraq. The near-simultaneous bombs went off in Kut, the capital of Wasit province, approximately 100 miles (160 kilometers) south of Baghdad. The coordinated car bombs exploded in a crowded shopping area in the city of Kut. The bombings came hours after a series of smaller attacks targeting members of the security forces in Baghdad killed eight police officers.
