London Underground (LU) workers will stage 24-hour walkouts on a weekly basis until plans to cut 800 jobs are withdrawn, according to media reports on August 24th. Strikes by members of the Rail Maritime and Transport (RMT) and the Transport Salaried Staffs Association (TSSA) will begin next month. The planned strikes could cost the city’s economy 48 million pounds (US$74 million) per day. While unions have not announced a date to begin the strike action, reports suggest the strikes will begin the week of September 6th.
