August 5, 2010. Tension and violence continue to spill over throughout Karachi

It has been reported that despite increased deployment of security forces to quell the violence, tension after the assassination of the MQM leader continued and sporadic acts of violence were reported in several areas of Karachi. Widespread clashes, public shootings, and acts of arson and vandalism were reported in Paposh, Banaras, Nazimabad, II Chudrigarh Road, Qasba Colony, Shah Faisal Colony, Malir, Landhi, Ancholi, Abul Hasan Isphahani Road, Sohrab Goth and Landi areas. Three days of violence has left over 63 people dead, 150 others injured while several vehicles, shops and markets were set on fire. The ensuing unrest has led to the closure of most businesses and schools while public transportation services have similarly been disrupted.
