These benefits may be of interest to travelers visiting areas with higher risk of terrorist attacks, and civil or political unrest.

The U.S. Department of State has issued a travel warning for Iran, urging citizens to carefully consider all nonessential travel to the region. In many cases, travelers have been harassed, arrested or detained by Iranian authorities. Because the U.S. government does not have relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran, their ability to assist travelers in need is extremely limited.

Travelers should make sure they carry documentation with them at all times and have an emergency plan in place. For more information, travelers can visit the “What the Department of State Can and Can’t Do in a Crisis” page on the U.S. Department of State’s website here.
