Why is my deposit date important when purchasing travel insurance?

Some benefits of travel insurance are covered only in the event you purchase your insurance within an “advantage period”. The advantage period for each product can vary but is typically somewhere between 10 and 21 days from the date of your first payment towards your trip also known as the deposit date. The additional benefits could include pre-existing conditions, financial default of a travel supplier, cancel for any reason, and cancel for work or business reasons. A few insurance companies will include or offer these as optional benefits in the event you purchase insurance prior to making your final trip payment. Always read the policy certificate for full details and any conditions which may apply.
