Provides reimbursement for lost, stolen or damaged baggage or personal items. This coverage is usually for your entire trip, not just your flight. If you have items valued over $1000 it is best to have these items “scheduled” on your home-owners policy.
R. LOST LUGGAGE – Subject to the Terms of this insurance and the Conditions and Restrictions set forth below, the Company will reimburse the Insured Person up to the amount shown in the Schedule of Benefits/Limits for the cost of damage to, loss of, or theft of checked or stored luggage or personal items and for the replacement cost of travel documents when such luggage, personal items or travel documents are damaged or permanently lost in transit by a Common Carrier or while stored with the commercial establishment providing lodging in which the Insured Person is a registered guest during the Period of Coverage, subject to the following conditions:
(1) The loss must be immediately reported in writing to the Common Carrier or commercial establishment and the Insured Person must then submit to the Company a copy of that claim form, property irregularity report (PIR), and such other documentation as the Company may reasonably require; and
(2) In the event a Common Carrier or commercial establishment is liable or responsible for reimbursing the Insured Person, any benefits owed under this insurance will be offset by first deducting the reimbursement received, and then up to the amount shown in the Schedule of Special Benefits/Limits.
(3) Except where a shorter notice period is allotted under the Terms of this insurance and when an Insured Person incurs any loss, the Company must be provided complete copies of all necessary and appropriate documents required to substantiate the claim, including without limitation PIRs, proof of ownership, purchase receipts, appraisals, and any other supporting documentation reasonably required or requested by the Company to properly investigate and administer the claim.
