Travel insurance providers across the US are witnessing the growth of the solo traveler, with recent figures revealing that 11 per cent of all leisure travelers are traveling alone.
While the majority of those journeying alone are confident travelers, industry experts have advised that keeping safe and vigilant and obtaining the appropriate travel insurance package before setting off is even more important for those traveling solo.
According to research carried out by the Automobile Association of America (AAA), the most popular destination recommended to solo travelers by industry professionals is Europe, while for men they also suggested Mexico and for women Hawaii.
Additionally, the study revealed that those aged between 18 and 35 account for the largest proportion of solo travelers, at 35 per cent, while those past the age of retirement account for 12 per cent of all those setting off alone.
“There are nearly 90 million single people in the US and this is clearly a market that the travel industry has been focused on in the past few years,” said Sandra Hughes, vice president of travel at the AAA.
Alongside advising travelers to obtain insurance, the AAA also stated that solo travelers should above all plan ahead and research their trip before they go, making sure to inform somebody else of their plans.
