If your Covered Trip is delayed for 6 hours or more, we will reimburse you, up to the amount shown in the Schedule for reasonable additional expenses incurred by you for hotel accommodations, meals, telephone calls and local transportation while you are delayed. What am I covered for?

We will pay up to the Maximum Benefit shown on the Certificate Schedule for reasonable, additional accommodations and for traveling expenses, not otherwise paid by any Travel Supplier or Common Carrier, incurred by the Insured Person on a Covered Trip because of a travel delay of at least 24 hours. The Insured Person must make every reasonable effort to avoid additional expenses.

This benefit is payable for only one delay per Covered Trip.

Travel Delay must be caused by:
a) Travel Supplier delay;
b) lost or stolen passport, travel documents or money;
c) medical quarantine;
d) natural disaster; or
e) Injury or Illness of the Insured Person or a Travel Companion.

The Insured’s Travel Delay claim will be reduced by any amount that is credited or refunded to him or her by any other source.

We will also pay for additional reasonable transportation costs to help the Insured Person join (catch up to) a covered cruise, up to the amount shown on the Certificate Schedule, if the delay is due to bad weather and causes the Insured Person to miss cruise departure because the airline flight was canceled or delayed for at least six (6) hours. The Travel Delay benefit is reduced by any benefit paid by the airline carrier or cruise line towards any additional transportation costs.

TRIP DELAY

The Company will reimburse You for Covered Expenses on a one-time basis, up to the maximum shown in the Confirmation of Coverage, if You are delayed en route to or from the Trip for twelve (12) or more hours due to a defined Hazard.

There will be a per day limit of $150.

Covered Expenses include:
a) any prepaid, unused, non-refundable land and water accommodations;
b) any reasonable Additional Expenses incurred;
c) an Economy Fare from the point where You ended Your Trip to a destination where You can catch up to the Trip;
d) a one-way Economy Fare to return You to Your originally scheduled return destination.

COVERAGE G

TRIP DELAY This Coverage G is made a part of the policy. It is subject to all the provisions of this Coverage G.

If You are delayed for 3 hours or more hours while in route to or from a Covered Trip, due to:
1. any delay of a Common Carrier. The delay must be certified by the Common Carrier;
2. a traffic accident in which You or Your Traveling Companion are not directly involved (must be substantiated by a police report);
3. lost or stolen passports, travel documents or money (must be substantiated by a police report);
4. quarantine, hijacking, strike, natural disaster, terrorism or riot; or
5. documented weather condition preventing the Insured from getting to the point of departure;

Benefits will be paid, on a one-time basis, up to the Maximum Benefit Amount, for:
1. the Additional Transportation Cost from the point where You were delayed to a destination where You can join the Covered Trip;
2. the Additional Transportation Cost to return You to Your originally scheduled return destination;
3. reasonable accommodation and meal expenses up to $150 per day necessarily incurred by You for which You have proof of purchase and which were not paid for or provided by any other source; and
4. the non-refundable, unused portion of the prepaid expenses for the Covered Trip as long as the expenses are supported by, proof of purchase and are not reimbursable by any other source.

You must provide the following documentation when presenting a claim for these benefits:
a) Written confirmation of the reasons for delay from the Common Carrier whose delay resulted in the loss, including but not limited to; scheduled departure and return times and actual departure and return times; Benefits will not be paid for any expenses, which have been reimbursed, or for any services that have been provided by the Common Carrier.

The Insurer will reimburse the Insured up to the Maximum Limit(s) shown on the Schedule for Reasonable Additional Expenses until travel becomes possible if the Insured’s Trip is delayed 12 or more consecutive hours from reaching their intended Destination as a result of a cancellation or delay of a regularly scheduled airline flight for one of the Unforeseen events listed below:
a) the insured being involved in a traffic accident while en route to a departure as substantiated by a police report;
b) Common Carrier delay;
c) the Insured’s or Traveling Companion’s lost or stolen passports, travel documents, or money;
d) Natural Disaster;
e) the Insured or Traveling Companion is quarantined;
f) Injury or Sickness of the Insured or Traveling Companion; or
g) Inclement Weather which prohibits Common Carrier departure.

Incurred expenses must be accompanied by receipts.

This benefit is payable for only one delay per Insured, per Trip.

If the Insured incurs more than one delay in the same Trip the Insurer will pay for the delay with the largest benefit up to the Maximum Limits shown on the Schedule.

The Insured Must: Contact the Worldwide Travel Assistance Center as soon as he/she knows his/her Trip is going to be delayed more than 12 hours.

The Company will reimburse You for covered expenses on a one-time basis, up to the maximum shown on Your Confirmation of Benefits, if You are delayed en route to or from the Trip for six (6) or more hours due to a Hazard:

a) Any prepaid, unused, non-refundable Land/Sea Accommodations; or any reasonable additional expenses incurred for meals and accommodations limited to $200 per day;
b) An Economy Fare from the point where You ended Your Trip to a destination where You can catch up to the Trip; or a one-way Economy Fare to return You to Your originally scheduled return destination.

TRIP DELAY BENEFITS

If your Covered Trip is delayed for 5 hours or more, we will reimburse your, up to the amount shown in the Schedule for reasonable additional expenses incurred by you for hotel accommodations, meals, telephone calls and local transportation while you are delayed. We will not pay benefi ts for expenses incurred after travel becomes possible.

Trip Delay must be caused by or result from:
1. Common Carrier delay; or
2. loss or theft of your passport(s), travel documents or money; or
3. quarantine; or hijacking; or a civil disorder;
4. natural disaster or closure of public roadways by government authorities; or
5. a documented traffi c accident while you are en route to departure;
6. unannounced strike.

We will reimburse You, subject to the Maximum Benefit Amounts for Trip Delay, for the following expenses incurred as a result of a trip delay of 5 or more hours duration occurring on or after Your Scheduled Departure Date as a result of one of the unforeseen events listed below:

4) Organized Labor Strike, Natural Disaster, Terrorist Incident, riot or You or Your Traveling Companion being hijacked or quarantined; or
5) Your passports, travel documents or money are lost or stolen as documented by a police report. The Maximum Benefit Amount for Trip Delay will be reduced by any amounts paid or payable by any Common Carrier responsible for such trip delay.
