If your travel insurance policy includes terrorism coverage within the Trip Cancellation benefit, you may be covered to cancel your trip to Belgium due to the terrorist attacks in Brussels. Coverage for terrorism varies between each policy and often times must meet certain requirements in order for coverage to be available.
These requirements may include:
- The attack must occur within 7-30 days of your scheduled departure
- The attack must occur within a certain number of miles from a city listed on your travel itinerary
- The city has not had a previous terrorist attack within a certain number of days
- The terrorist attack must meet the policy’s definition of a terrorist attack, which typically means it needs to be declared an act of terrorism by the US Department of State.
Please refer to your specific policy documents to see what your requirements for coverage may be.
Additionally, if your policy includes the optional Cancel For Any Reason upgrade then you are able to cancel your upcoming trip, even if you do not have specific terrorism coverage. Using the Cancel For Any Reason benefit, you will be reimbursed up to 75% of your trip cost, and are required to cancel your trip at least 2-3 days prior to your scheduled departure date.
