Limitations apply
The Sports & Activities benefit is designed to cover travelers who are participating in sports and adventurous activities, some of which may otherwise be excluded. Travelers can indicate the activities they will be participating in by selecting the Sports & Activities filter.
Squaremouth Notification:
If you have selected sports and/or activities filters, the provider has confirmed that these activities are not excluded from coverage for this policy. Please keep in mind that you may not specifically see your selections listed as covered in your policy certificate. We have confirmed with the provider that these activities are not excluded, however, we cannot guarantee adequate coverage for your particular trip. Please call us to review your policy certificate for coverage limitations and exclusions that may apply to your trip and activities.
The policy certificate includes the following language:
DD. EXCLUSIONS:
Except as expressly provided for in the BENEFIT SUMMARY, all Charges, costs, expenses and/or claims incurred by the Insured Person, and any claim for death or dismemberment benefits, and directly or indirectly relating to or arising or resulting from or in connection with any of the following acts, omissions, events, conditions, Charges, consequences, claims, Treatment (including diagnoses, consultations, tests, examinations and evaluations related thereto), services and/or supplies are expressly excluded from coverage under this insurance, and the Company shall provide no benefits or reimbursements and shall have no liability or obligation for any coverage thereof or therefor:
(21) any Illness or Injury sustained while taking part in, practicing or training for: Amateur Athletics; Professional Athletics; or athletic activities that are sponsored by any Governing Body or Authority, including but not limited to the National Collegiate Athletic Association, any other collegiate sanctioning or Governing Body or the International Olympic Committee
(22) any Illness or Injury sustained while taking part in activities designated as Adventure Sports, which are limited to the following: abseiling; BMX; bobsledding; bungee jumping; canyoning; caving; hot air ballooning; jungle zip lining; parachuting; paragliding; parascending; rappelling; skydiving; spelunking; wildlife safaris; and windsurfing
(23) any Illness or Injury sustained while taking part in activities designated as Extreme Sports, which include but are in no way limited to the following (and include any combination or derivative of the following): BASE jumping; cave diving; cliff diving; downhill mountain biking and racing; extreme skiing; freediving; free flying; free running; free skiing; freestyle scootering; gliding; heli-skiing; ice canoeing; ice climbing; kitesurfing; mixed martial arts; motocross; motorcycle racing; motor rally; mountaineering above elevation of 4500 meters from ground level; parkour; piloting a commercial or non-commercial aircraft; powerbocking; scuba diving or sub aqua pursuits below a depth of 40 meters; snowmobile racing; truck racing; whitewater kayaking or whitewater rafting Class VI and higher difficulty; and wingsuit flying
(24) any Illness or Injury sustained while taking part in snow skiing, snowboarding or snowmobiling where the Insured Person is in violation of applicable laws, rules or regulations of a ski resort, out of bounds or in unmarked or unpatrolled areas
(25) any Illness or Injury sustained while taking part in backcountry skiing
(26) any Illness or Injury sustained while taking part in skiing off-piste
(27) any Illness or Injury sustained while taking part in Collision Sports
(28) any Illness or Injury sustained while taking part in athletic or recreational activities where the Insured Person is not physically or medically fit or does not hold the necessary qualifications to engage in said activities
(29) any Illness or Injury sustained while participating in any sporting, recreational or adventure activity where such activity is undertaken against the advice or direction of any local authority or any qualified instructor or contrary to the rules, recommendations and procedures of a recognized Governing Body for the sport or activity
Optional Adventure Sports Rider
Attaching to and forming part of the Certificate of Insurance shown in the Declaration and Master Policy, in consideration of additional Premium, and subject to all other Terms of this insurance. All Insured Persons who have elected the Adventure Sports Rider, will be entitled to the amended benefits listed below.
The following benefit is added to the BENEFIT SUMMARY:
Adventure Sports
-Through age 49: $50,000 Maximum Limit
-Ages 50 through age 59: $30,000 Maximum Limit
-Ages 60 through age 64: $15,000 Maximum Limit
The following provisions are added to the Certificate of Insurance:
ELIGIBILITY:
If the Insured Person meets the eligibility requirements set forth in the Certificate of Insurance, he/she is eligible for the coverage included in this Rider.
ADVENTURE SPORTS:
(1) Subject to the Terms of the insurance plan and the Conditions and Restrictions set forth below, the Company will reimburse the Insured Person up to the amount shown in the BENEFIT SUMMARY for Eligible Medical Expenses incurred by the Insured Person with respect to an Illness or Injury suffered or sustained by the Insured Person while this insurance is in effect and for which coverage and/or benefits is (are) otherwise available hereunder, and while engaged in Adventure Sports, as defined herein; and provided the same are carried out in strict accordance with the guidelines, codes of good practice, and recommendations for safe practices as prescribed by a Governing Body or Authority.
(2) CONDITIONS AND RESTRICTIONS: In addition to the Terms of the insurance plan, this insurance does not cover any Charges, costs, expenses and/or claims incurred by the Insured Person relating to, arising from, as a consequence of, or in connection with, directly or indirectly, any of the following acts, omissions, events, occurrences or conditions:
a) willfully self-inflicted Injury or Illness, the effects of alcohol or drugs (other than as prescribed by a licensed Physician in full awareness of the Insured Person’s activities) and any self-exposure to needless peril (unless in an attempt to save human life)
b) any condition for which the Insured Person was undergoing, recovering from or awaiting Treatment immediately prior to the Adventure Sports activities.
It is a condition precedent to the Company’s liability under this insurance that any prospective participant applying for coverage under this insurance is medically and physically fit to participate in an Adventure Sport.
If in any doubt, the Insured Person should refrain from participating in any Adventure Sport until medical advice and approval has been obtained from a qualified Physician. No coverage will be provided for Insured Persons who are not physically and medically fit or who do not hold the necessary qualifications to engage in these activities.
The following exclusion is deleted in its entirety from the EXCLUSIONS provision:
(22) any Illness or Injury sustained while taking part in activities designated as Adventure Sports, which are limited to the following: abseiling; BMX; bobsledding; bungee jumping; canyoning; caving; hot air ballooning; jungle zip lining; parachuting; paragliding; parascending; rappelling; skydiving; spelunking; wildlife safaris; and windsurfing.
