The Dominican Republic offers free health insurance for all international visitors traveling to this destination. As of November 2021, this insurance has been extended indefinitely.
All tourists visiting the country are automatically enrolled in the policy, which includes:
Emergency Coverage: This benefit is similar to Emergency Medical and can cover hospital stays, medicine, and ambulatory care for an unforeseen illness or injury during the trip such as Covid-19.
Accommodations for Quarantine: Should a traveler contract Covid-19, this benefit can offer coverage for quarantine expenses such as lodging and food.
Reimbursement for flight changes due to infection: If a traveler has to quarantine and can’t make their original flight, this benefit can offer reimbursement for the flight change.
Since all travelers visiting the Dominican Republic automatically receive free medical coverage and coverage for quarantine or trip delays, many travelers may not need additional coverage. However, for travelers with prepaid and non-refundable trip expenses, Squaremouth recommends a Trip Cancellation policy.
Trip Cancellation coverage can provide reimbursement if a person has to cancel their trip because of an unforeseen injury, illness, or death. Trip Cancellation can also cover cancellations due to inclement weather, terrorism, or testing positive for Covid-19 before departure.
