French Polynesia Travel Insurance Requirements

French Polynesia Travel Insurance Requirements

While travelers visiting French Polynesia are no longer required to purchase travel insurance with coverage for Covid-19, doing so is still strongly encouraged. The French territory has lifted many of its Covid-19 entry requirements, which included providing proof of a negative test, vaccination records, and health insurance.

These entry requirements are subject to change at any time, so it’s advised you check with the Government’s official requirements prior to departing for your trip.

Squaremouth’s French Polynesia Travel Insurance Recommendations

While travelers visiting French Polynesia have the option to decline travel insurance and agree to pay all medical costs in the event of a Covid-19 related illness, Squaremouth recommends travelers purchase a comprehensive travel insurance policy to protect themselves. A comprehensive policy will include coverage for cancellations, medical emergencies, travel delays, and luggage. Depending the trip and traveler information, a policy will typically cost between 5% and 10% of the total trip cost.

Medical coverage is especially important amid the Covid-19 pandemic. For that reason, Squaremouth recommends at least $50,000 in Emergency Medical coverage, and at least $100,000 in Medical Evacuation coverage. Because Bermuda does not specify required coverage amounts, these remain our recommendations for travelers visiting the country.

Emergency Medical can cover the costs of treating an illness or injury that is incurred during a trip. Covid-19 medical coverage is included within most travel insurance policies available on Squaremouth.com.

Medical Evacuation can cover the cost of an evacuation to the nearest hospital in the event of an emergency.

In general, Trip Cancellation is the main reason most travelers buy travel insurance. For travelers who are concerned about losing their prepaid trip expenses if they need to cancel their trip to Bermuda, Squaremouth recommends insuring these costs through the Trip Cancellation benefit. This benefit can reimburse 100% of a traveler’s prepaid and non-refundable trip costs if they need to cancel for a covered reason, such as not being able to travel because they are sick with Covid-19 or another illness.
