Squaremouth’s Greece Travel Insurance Recommendations

Squaremouth recommends a comprehensive policy with medical coverage and cancellation coverage when traveling to Greece. While travel insurance is not required to travel to Greece, these policies can reimburse for their unused trip costs if they need to cancel their trip, and for medical expenses in the event a traveler gets injured while traveling.

Squaremouth recommends a policy with $50,000 Emergency Medical coverage and at least $100,000 of Medical Evacuation for travelers concerned with unforeseen illness or injury during their trip.

For travelers who plan to visit remote parts of Greece or take a cruise, Squaremouth recommends at least $100,000 in Emergency Medical coverage and $250,000 in Medical Evacuation. The cost tends to be higher for medical bills that can come with transportation to an adequate medical facility in these circumstances.

Emergency Medical coverage can provide reimbursement for an illness or injury that occurs during travel. Medical Evacuation coverage can provide reimbursement to get a traveler to the nearest adequate medical care facility or in some cases even home.

Trip Cancellation can cover up to 100% of prepaid, non-refundable trip expenses if a traveler has to cancel their trip for unforeseen illness or injury, inclement weather, or a natural disaster before their departure. Trip Cancellation can also provide reimbursement for cancellation due to a confirmed Covid-19 case.

In addition to Cancellation and Medical coverage, comprehensive policies include other benefits as well including Trip Interruption and Travel Delay benefits.

Trip Interruption can reimburse a traveler for expenses from 100% – 200% of the insured trip costs if they have to interrupt their trip for a covered reason. This coverage can provide reimbursement for a flight to catch up to their trip or return home if necessary. Most policies with Trip Cancellation coverage also include Trip Interruption as well.

Quarantining for Covid-19 is top of mind for travelers. For this concern, Squaremouth recommends Travel Delay coverage, which can reimburse travelers for expenses related to having to quarantine such as accommodations and meals. This benefit typically pays $150 – $200 per traveler, per day up to the policy limit. Travel Delay is typically included in most comprehensive policies for no additional cost.
