Evacuation

What is Medical Evacuation and Repatriation Coverage?

Last Updated:

Medical Evacuation can provide coverage if you require transportation to a nearby medical facility while traveling. Most policies provide coverage to transport you to the closest, adequate, medical facility in the event you need emergency medical treatment. Once you are stabilized, if your treating physician recommends you seek further medical attention in your home country and this is pre-approved by your travel insurance provider, Medical Evacuation can also provide coverage to transport you back home.

When traveling outside of your home country we typically recommend at least $100,000 for Medical Evacuation. If you are traveling to a more remote location, or going on a cruise, we recommend $250,000 in Medical Evacuation coverage. Most travel insurance policies have at least this amount.

In addition to Medical Evacuation coverage, this benefit can include coverage for Medical Repatriation and Repatriation of Remains. Medical Repatriation covers your return to your home country for treatment if it is recommended by the physician treating you and is approved by the provider. Repatriation of Remains arranges for return of deceased remains back to the place of residence.
