Latest Israel Travel Information

The U.S Department of State has issued a Level 3 travel advisory for all travel to Israel due to terrorism and civil unrest. Squaremouth continues to monitor the situation, and will post updates, provider statements, and insurance FAQs to our Israel Terrorist Attack Travel Insurance Information Center.

Does Israel Require Travel Insurance?

No, as of May 15, 2023, travel insurance is no longer an entry requirement to visit Israel. No travel is risk-free, however, travelers heading to Israel should still consider purchasing travel insurance for their trip.

Squaremouth’s Travel Insurance Recommendations for Israel

Year after year, Israel is one of the most popular destinations among Squaremouth travelers. The country is home to famous religious landmarks, as well as beautiful beaches, scenic landscapes, the famous Dead Sea, and many historically significant attractions.

While crime in Israel is generally low and natural disasters are relatively rare, there’s always a chance things can go wrong during a trip overseas. For that reason, among others, we recommend that travelers consider travel insurance policies with the following coverage:

Israel Travel Health Insurance

Medical coverage while traveling abroad is one of the main reasons travelers insure their trip. Getting injured or sick while in Israel can be costly, especially since most U.S. healthcare providers won’t cover international hospital bills.

There are two main travel medical insurance benefits to consider for a trip to Israel: Emergency Medical and Medical Evacuation.

Emergency Medical covers the cost of common medical expenses you may encounter when you get sick or injured. This can include expenses such as ambulance rides, hospital stays, physician visits, x-rays, and more. Medical Evacuation can cover expenses related to transporting you to an adequate medical facility to receive treatment.

For travelers heading to Israel, Squaremouth recommends at least $50,000 in Emergency Medical coverage and at least $100,000 in Medical Evacuation coverage.

Israel Cancellation Coverage

Not all trips go according to plan, and some need to be canceled before they even start. In the event you are forced to cancel your Israel trip, Trip Cancellation coverage may be able to help you recoup your prepaid and non-refundable trip costs, such as flights, hotels, and excursions.

This benefit can reimburse you if you are forced to cancel your trip for a covered reason, such as an unexpected illness, injury, terrorism, or employment termination. For added cancellation flexibility, we recommend a policy with Cancel For Any Reason coverage, which can offer partial reimbursement for cancellations that aren’t typically covered by standard travel insurance.

Under most comprehensive travel insurance policies, you may also be covered if you need to cut your trip short and return home early. The Trip Interruption benefit may cover any unused trip costs, as well as additional costs required to book additional travel arrangements to safely return home.

Israel Flight Delay Coverage

Delays have been a growing concern among today’s travelers. If your flight is delayed heading to or from Israel you may be eligible for reimbursement through your policy’s delay benefits.

Travel Delay can reimburse travelers for food and lodging expenses if they experience significant flight delays. If a delay forces you to miss your connecting flights, then your Missed Connection coverage may reimburse additional costs needed to book additional transportation to catch up to a trip.

Baggage Coverage

Most comprehensive travel insurance policies will also include coverage for delayed or lost luggage.

If your luggage is delayed in transit, your policy’s Baggage Delay benefit can reimburse travelers the cost of clothing, toiletries, and other necessities.

If your luggage or belongings are lost, stolen, or damaged at any point during your trip, the Baggage & Personal Item Loss benefit may reimburse travelers for the value of the lost or damaged items up to a specified amount.
