Does Travel Insurance Include Identity Theft Protection?

Last Updated:

Travel insurance policies are primarily designed to cover travelers’ main concerns, including trip cancellations and delays, medical emergencies, and lost or delayed luggage. However, most policies include additional benefits that can provide specific coverage for certain travelers.

As part of their additional benefit offerings, select travel insurance providers include Identity Theft protection for insured travelers. This includes travelers who are missing their identification cards, credit cards, or other important financial documents during their trip, or those who feel their identity has been compromised.

How can travel insurance help if my identity has been compromised?

If you are traveling and believe your identity has been stolen or compromised, contact your travel insurance provider as soon as reasonably possible. Every provider offers 24-hour Emergency Assistance services that can help you in the event of an emergency, including explaining what coverage you have and what steps you should take next.

Your provider can give you an ID theft resolution kit to help you resolve the matter, and can also assist with filing and submitting the necessary paperwork. In the event you lose your identification card, such as your driver’s license, your provider can also help you with the necessary steps you need to take to be able to travel back home at the end of your trip.
