Short Answer   When coverage starts depends on what type of policy was purchased. Trip Cancellation policies are effective at 12:01am local time the day after purchasing your policy, International Medical policies’ coverage starts on the day you have selected as your departure date, and Annual policies are effective on the date you have entered as your start date. More Detail Trip Cancellation policies begin covering you for cancellation the day after you purchase insurance. All other benefits included on Trip Cancellation policies begin on your departure date.

For Cancellation policies your coverage will typically end on the earliest of the following – your scheduled return home date or the date your trip has ended because you return home early. If you experience a covered delay, coverage typically extends until the time you return home, up to 7 days following your listed return date. For International Medical policies, your coverage will end on the date you selected as your return date. Annual policies end 1 year after the start date.
