What is International Medical coverage?

Last Updated:

Short Answer

International Medical coverage is designed to provide travelers with Emergency Medical and Medical Evacuation coverage while traveling outside of their home country.

More Detail

International Medical coverage is designed to provide Emergency Medical and Medical Evacuation coverage while traveling outside of your home country, and can provide coverage for the entire length of your trip.

Pre-Existing Condition coverage is available on most International Medical plans, however coverage is limited and the lookback period on most policies is 1-3 years.

Most International Medical plans have a default Medical Deductible, however, most policies provide the option of increasing or decreasing this amount.

Additionally, many of these policies are renewable, meaning coverage may be extended for up to 12-24 months depending on the policy. If coverage is needed after that time, a new International Medical policy must be purchased.

To create a quote for an International Medical policy, create a quote for a Single Trip and enter the date you would like coverage to start for the question “When do you leave home for your trip?” and the date you would like coverage to end for the question “When do you return home?” Additionally, select “No” for the question “Should this quote include trip cancellation coverage?” Once you have created a quote, select the “Medical Deductible” filter to only show the International Medical policies.

This information can vary based on the travel insurance policy. Please review the policy certificate to verify coverage.
