First time purchasing travel insurance as we were planning a trip to Mexico and a cruise to Alaska. Got food poisoning in Mexico and had to be treated there by a gastroenterologist. Filed a claim upon our return and was pleasantly surprised that the process went smoothly and the claim was paid. They do require receipts for diagnosis, treatment and medications so be sure to keep good records. We are very satisfied with squaremouth and will be using them moving forward.
Good Stuff
Good reputation, easy purchase and good for our peace of ming
Claim process was easy to do, I had a couple of questions that were answered promptly by telephone support and the claim was approved and paid in less than 2 weeks from being completed and submitted.
Filing my claim was very easy and it was paid promptly.
I will file a claim to get back monies that I had to pay out of pocket because American Aiirlines was late arriving for a connecting flight to Rome. I was delayed a day and was put up in a hotel but they did not pay for food for my husband and myself durning my hold over until my rebooked flight 24 hours later.
Easy to understand the website & comparative prices from other sites
I was told I could not file a claim as the incident happened 1 day after date we returned to US soil even though we were not yet back home. It was unclear in the policy wording that the extension of the policy period was not valid unless the incident was before the end of official claim period even though we still had not made it back home.
This needs to be clarified in wording of the policy. Next time I will make the travel period longer than I actually plan for.
They want a statement fromEthiopian Airwys for the claim. This is proving hard to get.
This comment is not a negative reflection on Travel Insured International at all...it is just an admonition to get a complete set of paperwork resulting from any medical event you may experience while traveling before you leave the area.
Here's the situation. While trekking in Spain, I passed out momentarily from diarrhea-induced dehydration. EMT's responded, made a medical assessment, provided re-hydration powder, and left without providing any paperwork other than a bill. Being a rookie at medical events while traveling, I didn't think to ask for any other verification of medical treatment, like copies of doctor's notes, findings, diagnoses, or discharge papers indicating the nature of, and reason for, treatment. It took me about a month of chasing around trying to find the relevant parties in a tiny Spanish town that could provide the necessary paperwork. Once I received the documents, Travel Insured International paid paid my claim.
