Customers appreciate Travel Insured International’s helpful and responsive customer service. Many have positive claims experiences, though some report challenges in meeting the provider’s documentation requests.
I received a policy saying I was. Visiting the United Arab Emirates but in reality I was visiting the United Kingdom. I called customer service and the employee found to problem and fixed it immediately.
They were very polite and helpful.
Our claim was handled quickly and efficiently. The customer representative was very friendly and helpful. A great experience. I plan on another big trip next year and most likely purchase travel insurance with Travel Insured again. I have recommended them to others.
Summary: do yourself a favor and stay away from Travel Insured International when shopping for travel insurance. This company is quick to take your money, but they are NOT there for their customers if an incident happens and it's a borderline case. The management appears to value quick profit over customer service, so think twice if you want to do business with an insurance company like that. I actually work in an insurance company and have a good understanding of the claims process, insurance policy language, decision making process in Claims department, etc. Read on for more details.
Our Delta airlines flight LAX - FLL was moved for earlier(!) departure time. Typically, the flights get delayed due to weather, mechanical issues, etc. But in this case, Delta moved up the flight for earlier departure time. We were with a 2 year old son and TSA took sweet time examining the stroller. We arrived to the gate 17 minutes prior to original departure time, and were shocked to find out that the flight was rescheduled for earlier. Since the boarding ends 15 minutes prior to departure time, Delta agents had already closed the gate. This incident caused us to miss a connecting flight to the Bahamas, that was prepaid and non-refundable. In the end, we had to make alternate travel arrangements via JetBlue and BahamasAir. JetBlue flight to Florida was more than 12 hrs after the original departure time.
The insurance policy contract by Travel Insured International (Trip Delay section) states that "We will reimburse You for the prepaid non-refundable deposits ... if Your Trip is delayed 6 consecutive hours from the original departure time due to ... Common Carrier delay (the delay must be documented by a Common Carrier)".
I filled out a lengthy claim intake form and attached 15+ PDF files (Delta reschedule notice, boarding passes, credit card statements, tour operator contract, etc.) documenting every step. I completely expected this, I certainly understand that insurance companies need documentation.
1 month later I received a call from a claims adjuster stating that my claim is denied b/c the original Delta flight was not delayed by 6 consecutive hours, it actually departed earlier. There is no wording in the insurance contract about flights departing earlier.
OK, so it's a borderline case: the original Delta flight took off earlier, not later, but the alternate JetBlue flight was more than 12 hrs later. We paid $191 for a policy, and I filed a Trip Delay claim for ~$1,200 for plane tickets / alternate travel expenses for 3 people (relatively small claim for 3 people, not several thousands of dollars). I have all relevant documentation. Borderline cases typically go to claims management for review. It is up to claims management to decide if they value quick profit or customer service more.
Well, I guess I have my answer. I won't be purchasing from Travel Insured International again, as they make every effort to deny even borderline cases. In an already stressful event of a travel delay, would you like to have insurance from a company like that?
Easy fo talk to. However, still Waiting for claims form they said they will send us regarding overnite stay in Dallas due to bad storms. American airlines rescheduled flight for next day. So cannot give total experience. Have used squaremouth for many years, fortunately have never needed to submit a claim
No claim so no comment
Easy to work with and prices were reasonable.
I’m waiting for the bill .
I thought the purchasing process was easy, and appreciated the help the rep gave me when additions were needed
I have purchased Squaremouth travel insurance several times when we have gone on cruises. On our last 17-day cruise to the Panama Canal on NCL, I got sick and had to go to the medical center twice. I received excellent and thorough care (x-rays, lab tests, steroid interventions, etc., for flu and bronchitis which caused severe coughing and muscle pain). I received a bill for almost $5,000.00 and submitted the claim to Squaremouth. We received a check for the claim amount within six weeks. We did receive one email after four weeks that the claim was delayed. However, it would have been nice to have received a subsequent email confirming that the claim was resolved and a check was on the way.
Otherwise, on the whole I am very grateful and satisfied with their coverage and service.
Carol
I wish it was less expensive for the insurance, but it was so good to have peace of mind. Thank you!
